Charles Loren Alden, 78, died Friday evening, Oct 14, at his farm home, northwest of Unionville, Iowa, after a long illness.
He was born in Caldwell county, Missouri, March 4, 1882, the son of Carrol and Emma Eckelberry Alden.
As a young man he went to Washington state, where he was a wheat farmer for two years, returning to Missouri, where he farmed until coming to Iowa in 1920.
In 1908 he married Mabel Pearl Miller, who preceded him in death in May of 1959; also a son, Carol Douglas, and a sister, Bertha Foster, preceded him in death.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Emma Wills of Greenwood, Mo.; four sons, Claude of Puyallup, Wash.; Russell of Udell, Ia.; Carl of Wilmington, Ohio, and Will of Klober, Wash.; 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Elmer; Earl and Everett Alden of Missouri and two sisters,. Mrs. Lela Martin of Ohio and Blanche Shartzer of Missouri. He was a member and officer of the Unionville Methodist church where services will be held at 1:30 Monday with Rev. Banks Doggett officiating.
Burial will be in the Eaton cemetery west of Unionville. The body as at the Miller-Wehrle Funeral Home.
