Mary Mitchell Howe, age 72 years, 6 months and 14 days, passed away Dec. 9, 1953 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hazel Thome, 208 W. Gracia St., Marceline, Mo.
Mary Crosser Howe born May 25, 1881, Cleveland, Iowa, of Lucas County was eldest daughter of Alexander and Ellen Mitchell. She was married to Charles F. Howe, Dec. 10, 1901. To this union 5 children were born, surviving are Mrs. Hazel Thome, Marceline, Mo., Mrs. Hallie Clark, Rockford, Ill., the twins, Mrs. Loraine Brown, Mrs. Lucille Hammerstrand of Rockford, Ill. A son Clarence died in infancy. the husband Charles passed away Sept. 12, 1939.
Mrs. Howe spent the early part of her life in and around Centerville, where she became a member of the Christian Church. She also resided in Marceline, Mo. for a number of years.
She had been seriously ill the past 2 years, coming to live with her daughter in Marceline, March, 1953.
Mrs. Howe leaves to mourn her passing, besides the immediate family three sisters: Mrs. Maggie Anderson of Des Moines, Ia.; Mrs. Lexis Howe and Mrs. Helen Morrow of Centerville, Ia., 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and a large number of nieces and nephews, a host of friends and neighbors.
Mrs. Howe was a wonderful mother and always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who might need it.
A short prayer service was conducted by Rev. Cecil Swinehart, Christian Church, Marceline, Mo., at Miller-Tillotson Funeral parlor in Marceline, Dec. 11, 1953, and funeral services were conducted Dec. 12, 2 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Centerville by Rev. Cecil Swinehart of Marceline and Rev. Thomas Polk, Christian Church in Centerville, Iowa. Burial in Highland Cemetery at Mystic, Iowa.
