The Appanoose Times, Centerville, Iowa, August 4, 1881.
OBITUARY. DIED - at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. S. H. Berry, of this Asa OWINGS, of Walnut City, Appanoose county, Iowa, July 35th, 1881, in the 72nd year of his age. Mr. Owings was an old resident of this county, coming here in 1860 and buying the farm now occupied by R.S. Morris, in Johns township. After farming a few years, he traded the farm to R.S. Morris for a dry good store bout the time the hard times set in, in which business he was not successful. For some years, he has been making his home near Walnut City, and was visiting his daughter in Albia at the time of his death. He was a good citizen and a man highly respected by all who knew him.
