Another old settler gone. Died Thursday, May 2, Wm. Hunter of Douglas Twp., age 84. Mr. Hunter was born in the state of Kentucky in 1797. At the age of 12 years his parents moved to Ohio and from there to Indiana. He was married in 1821 and was the father of 18 children, fourteen of them living to be grown. He came to Iowa in 1852 and settled in Douglas township, where he has lived from that time until his death. He was a member of the Christian church and of the Masonic order, and was buried Wednesday with the honors of the order, and was said to be the oldest Mason in the state. At the age of 17, he was at New Orleans and participated in the battle under General Jackson.
