Five Men Called
-Five Returned

Five men from Moulton were included in the 35 draftees sent to Des Moines, Tuesday, for examination prior to their induction into
the armed forces and all five are now home. Three of them know their status but two are still wondering whether they are in or out of the Army.
The local men who went to Des Moines, Tuesday, were Orris Harrington, Merle Moulton, Quedor Probasco, "Dutch" Maring who is registered
here but living now in Ft. Madison, and Gerald Tipton, of Ottumwa, another registered in Appanoose county. Three of the men, Probasco, Maring and Tipton were definitely handed their rejection slips. Harrington and Moulton, however, are still wondering just how they stand.
These latter two men were of the opinion that they were "in" until the final phase of their examination was taken. They were handed their
papers which carried a slip notifying them that they were "in the Army now." Later on a medical officer told them that their case had
been referred back to their local draft board and that they could return home. They were not told if they were "in" or "out" or just what
disposal would be made of them. Of the five local men who went to Des Moines this week, three, Harrington, Maring and Tipton, were
pre-Pearl Harbor fathers.
