J. H. B. Armstrong, one of the good citizens of Pleasant township, settled where he now lives, in November, 1852. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Oct. 10th, 1810, and came to Iowa in October, 1849, settling near West Primrose, Lee county, and remained there until he came to this county. He traces his genealogy back to the days of his grandfather who was born in England, Jan. 12th, 1754, and who came to America and settled near Cincinnati, Ohio, May 15th, 1790.

Mr. Armstrong has voted for six Presidents, beginning with General Jackson. He has always been an abolitionist and during the days of slavery was an active conductor on the underground railroad assisting in the escape of about thirty slaves.

He is strict temperance man, and uses no liquors or tobacco; is a member of the ___ ___; is opposed to voting taxes in aid of railroads; has never voted the Democratic ticket; and was a delegate from this county in the ___ republican State Convention. His years are sixty-two and they have been years of b___, temperance and p___ity.
