Leona M. Renk, 87, of Waukon, Iowa, died Sunday, October 2, 2005, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 5, at 11 a.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, with Rev. Richard N. Eick officiating. Burial will be in Lansing Ridge Cemetery rural Lansing, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Leona Marie Renk was born June 30, 1918, in Hanover Township, rural Waukon, in a log cabin her father built. She was the daughter of Conrad and Deena (Nelson) Glaser. Leona was baptized at home, confirmed at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in rural Postville, and attended Lycurgus Elementary School.

November 10, 1937, she married Arthur Hager in Ludlow Township, where they farmed from 1937 to 1959. Leona also operated the Ludlow Switchboard from 1942 to 1958 out of their home. Arthur died in 1973.

July 6, 1979, she married Otto Renk at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. Otto died in 1987. Leona was a waitress and cook at the Model Cafe. She also did painting and wall papering for many years in Waukon.

Leona was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and its ladies circles. She was also an RSVP volunteer. She liked baking, crocheting, dancing, and playing cards, especially euchre. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter Grace (Ordell) Sorenson of Waterville, Iowa; a son, Richard (Aileen) Hager of Monona, Iowa; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Arthur and Otto; a sister, Colletta Meyer; two half-brothers, Theodore Nelson and William Symons; a half-sister, Anna Symons; three sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.

Honorary casketbearers are Norman and Iona Reeves, Beulah Enyart, Vince and Jean Mathis, Joe Cunningham, Stan and Darlene Ewing, Ruth Rask, Lorraine Adam, and Bonnie and Marlys Hager. Casketbearers are James, Jerry, and Jack Hager, Hartley Enyart Jr., Glen Mathis, and George Decker.
