Betty Anderson

Betty J. Anderson, 80, of Waukon, Iowa, died Monday, October 3, 2005, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, following a brief illness. Memorial services were held Thursday, October 6 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial of ashes was in Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements.

Betty Jean was born March 17, 1925, on the Clayton County, rural Postville, farm of her parents, Edward and Mary (Meyer) Schlee. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Postville and attended Postville Schools.

November 19, 1953, she married Milton J. Anderson in Ocean Beach, Calif. Betty was a homemaker, but also worked as a meat wrapper at the Waukon Locker, a cook at the Dari-O Café, and a clerk at Huba-Huba Convenience Store. She enjoyed visiting with her family and friends, shopping, and going out to eat. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre and 500, watching television, and reading.

Survivors include three children, George Edward (Patty) of Alburnett, Iowa, Michael (Kate) of McFarland, Wis., and Mary (Ed) Hawes of Waukon; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Norma) Schlee of Postville; and two sisters, Charlotte Baethke of Zimmerman, Minn., and Mary (Kenneth) Timmerman of Decorah.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Milton, who died in 1988; and two brothers, James and William Schlee.
