Laurence Hofer

Funeral services for Laurence Hofer were held Friday, July 29 at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church at Postville. Rev. Terrance P. Hennesy officiated. Schutte Funeral Service, Postville, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Laurence Herschel Hofer, son of Samuel and Louise (Pfarrer) Hofer, was born June 17, 1907 at Rock Valley, Iowa. He died Tuesday, July 26, 1988 in Community Memorial Hospital, Postville.

He attended the rural school near Elgin. On July 17, 1935 he married Ida Belle Brooks at the Manse of the Community Presbyterian Church with Rev. R. F. Galloway officiating. He was first employed at Hall Roberts' Son. Prior to his retirement, Laurence operated Postville Auto Sales and was a salesman for the Pioneer Seed Co.

He was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville and a past member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Clifford, William, Melbert and Richard, and 2 sisters, Bertha Jennings and Dorothy Lisowski.

Surviving are his wife, Ida Belle, a brother, Arthur and his wife, Rose, of Roselle, IL and a sister, Eileen and her husband, Richard DuPont of Mundelein, IL, several nephews and nieces and many cousins.

Casket bearers: Philip Hofer, Ronald Hofer, Cliff J. Olson, Leo Foels, William Torkelson, A. Burr Cook, Steve Kittelson, Everett Cook.
