Arlando "Arnie" Anderson

Arlando "Arnie" Anderson, 86, of Waukon, died Sunday, April 11, 2004, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 15 at 11 a.m. at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Herbert Arlando "Arnie" Anderson was born September 19, 1917, in Makee Township, rural Waukon, Iowa. He was the son of Marcus and Mabel (Sorum) Anderson. Arnie was baptized and confirmed at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church and attended the rural area schools. Following school he started farming, first with his parents and then on his own. He milked dairy cows and raised beef cattle, hogs, and crops. Arnie lived and worked on the same Makee Township farm he was born on until moving to Waukon in the early 1980s. He has been a resident of Good Samaritan Center since 2001. Arnie liked the farming life and enjoyed working with horses in his earlier days. He was also very fond of his pet dogs. He liked being around people and enjoyed going to town to have coffee with friends, visiting with people at farm sales, and having company to his home.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Betty Anderson of Waukon; a niece; two nephews; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Milton.

Honorary casketbearers are Gordon and Kenneth Marti, Bill Steffenson, Jack Marsden, Robert Stock, Donald Larson, Jim Ryan, and Dean Johnson. Casketbearers are Mike and George Anderson, Ed Hawes, Richard Hansmeier, Howard Sorum, and Gordon Steffenson.
