Thelma L. Beardmore, 80, of Dorchester, IA, died Sunday, May 1, 2005 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, IA, following a brief illness.
Thelma L. Rosendahl Beardmore was born on October 6, 1924 in Wilmington Township, rural Caledonia, to Anton and Clara Amanda (Sivesin) Rosendahl. She was baptized and confirmed at Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church and attended elementary school in rural Allamakee County. She received her GED in 1971. On September 3, 1940 she married Calvin W. Beardmore at St. John’s Lutheran Church parsonage in Waukon. After they were married Thelma helped Calvin on the farm, she then worked for several years in factories in Spring Grove. She was a waitress and a cook for several restaurants in the Caledonia area and was the head cook for the Girl Scout Camp Tahigwa in rural Dorchester. Thelma worked as a homemaker and did Home Health Care for several area families.
She was a member of Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church, Sarah Circle, WELCA and Ladies Auxiliary American Legion of Spring Grove, MN. Thelma enjoyed cooking for and spending time with family along with quilting and embroidering several items for each of her family members. She also enjoyed playing bingo.
Survivors include a daughter, Delores Kibbee of Cedar Falls, IA; four sons, Ronald (Rosalie) and Marvin (Judy), both of Dorchester, Kenneth (Rose) of Waukon, and Lyle (Trudy) of Gary, MN; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a sister, Stella Burmester of New Albin; and two brothers, Norman Rosendahl of Waukon and Charles (Shirley) Rosendahl of La Crescent. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Calvin, who died in 1994; and infant daughter, Violet; three sisters, Olga Evenmoe, Mabel Holton, and Verna Soride; and four brothers, James, Bennie, Arthur, and Eddie Rosendahl.
Services will be held Thursday, May 5 at 11 a.m. at Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove, with Pastor Arndt F. Braaten officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
