GEORGE WILDE, 67, FORMER RESIDENT, CALLED BY DEATH

---------

LARGELY ATTENDED FUNERAL HELD IN LANSING LAST SATURDAY AT 2 P.M.

---------

News of the death of George F. Wilde, well known resident of these parts years ago, at St. Francis hospital, LaCrosse, Thursday, Feb. 26, at 11:40 p.m., after an illness of about two weeks, with pneumonia, reached here early Friday morning when undertaker Saam was called to LaCrosse to bring the body here and prepare it for burial. Mr. Wilde took sick Feb. 10th at his home in DeSoto, was taken to hospital Feb. 18th and died as above stated.

Deceased was born in French Creek township, Allamakee county, Sept. 14, 1868, son of the late George and Katharina Wilde, pioneers of that township, grew to young manhood there and in the spring or summer of 1892 was married to Miss Mary, youngest daughter of the late George Thompson, of Lansing township. They lived in French Creek for about three years, then on the Moller and Henry places in Lansing township, and then came to this city. In the meantime two daughters, Elsie and Viette, and a son, Stanley, were born to them, after which a separation took place.

Mr. Wilde engaged in stock buying when he quit farming, having as partners in that business at various times Chas. Wilde, Frank Weymiller and Adolph Rudnick. In 1915 he went to Ferryville, Wis., and in company with his son Stanley continued in the stock business, removing to DeSoto, in 1927, where he married Miss Anna Johnson the local postmistress, who survives him with four brothers and four sisters as follows: Wm. Wilde, Preston, Minn.; Fred Wilde, Minneapolis; Gus Wilde, on the old homestead in French Creek and Edward L. on an adjoining farm in the same township; Mrs. Ed. Sadler (Rose), Union City township; Mrs. C. J. Bjorklund (Louise), Bowen, N.D.; Mrs. Thurlow Fulks (Mary), Ft. Wayne, Ind.; Mrs. Oscar Smerud (Clara), New Albin, all being present at the funeral Saturday but Fred of Minneapolis and the sisters residing in North Dakota and Indiana.

Deceased was big hearted and generous to a fault, made friends easily and was popular with all. A man of keen intellect and strong intuition he was a good judge of stock and made a success of the business in late years.

At the time of his death he was a member of the board of county commissioners of Vernon county and, had they known it in time the board would have attended his funeral in a body.

The funeral took place from the Evangelical church Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. H. J. Noeding officiating in the absence of pastor Walter.

Among out-of-town relatives at the funeral were his daughters, Mrs. Clarence Henderson (Elsie), of Batavia, Ill., and Mrs. Ray Rouse (Viette), of Duluth, Minn., and their husbands, and his son Stanley of Ferryville, Wis., besides numerous friends from the Wisconsin side and a host of relatives and old-home friends on this side of the river.
