Ora Gene Meyer

Funeral services for Ora Gene Meyer were held Saturday, June 24, 1989 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. The organist was JoAnn Martins and the soloist was Steven Bodensteiner. Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.

Ora Gene Meyer, daughter of Fred and Alvina (Ihde) Oestmann, was born June 4, 1925 in Allamakee County, Iowa. She died June 21, 1989 in Community Memorial Hospital at Postville, Iowa.

She was baptized June 28, 1925 by the Rev. E. T. Finck and confirmed November 13, 1938 by Rev. F. R. Ludwig at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. She graduated from the Postville High School with the class of 1943. She attended Luther College the summer of 1945 and taught country schools in Fayette and Winneshiek County for 4 years.

June 12, 1947 she was united in marriage with Orville V. Meyer, by the Rev. F. R. Ludwig, in St. Paul Lutheran Church. They had 5 children. They farmed in the Castalia area until 1981 when they moved to Postville.

Ora Gene was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a member of the ELCA.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Orville, in 1983, her mother in 1944*, her father in 1981, a sister, Rosina in 1964 and a brother and sister in infancy.

Surviving are her children, 3 daughters, Judy Ann (Mrs. David Geerts), North Washington, Kathryn Jo (Mrs. Richard Menne), West Union, Beverly Jean (Mrs. David Torkelson), Monona, 2 sons, Kenneth F. and Keith and his wife, Brenda, all of Castalia; 15 grandchildren; 1 step-grandson and a brother, Willard Oestmann, Postville.

Casket bearers were Robert Hilgerson, Roger Meyer, Bryon Meyer, Mike Ihde, Leo Schroeder and Robert Kugel.
