INEZ THERESA HECKMANN

Inez Theresa Heckmann, daughter of Frank Xavier and Louise Violet (Antely) Steiert was born April 15,1909 at Monona,Iowa. She died Saturday,Feb. 5,1994 in Good Samaritan Center at Postville,Iowa. She was 84.

She graduated from Monona High School. On December 4,1929,she was married to Arbie William Henry Heckmann at Monona. To this union,13,children were born. They spent all of their lives in Postville area,with the exception of the first two years, when they lived in Monona.

Inez was active in the Post and Franklin Study Clubs, the Order of Eastern Star,and served as president of the VFW Auxiliary, both Inez and Arbie were excellent dancers and attended whenever they could.

She is preceded in death by her parents;her husband Arbie who died in 1966; two sons,Gene Heckmann and Allan J. Heckmann,and one great grandson, Joseph R. Reed.

Surviving are 11 children, Jean F. Schultz and her husband Floyd of Lake Mills,Wis.; Donald L. Heckmann and his wife Regina of Round Rock, Texas. Anna M.Rose and her husband Irey of Waterloo, Robert W. Heckmann of Postville, Leslie L.Heckmann and his wife Sherrill of Postville, Zeta M. Heckmann of Cedar Rapids, Neal E. Heckmann and his wife Karen of Oelwein, Twila A. Haviland and her husband David of Clive, Vicky S. Ney and her husband Lyle G. of West Union, and Stanley G. Heckmann and his wife Pat of Glendale,Ariz.; also surviving are 28 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 9,1994 at 11 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church,Postville, the Rev.Charles W. Miller officiating. Special music was provided by granddaughters Sandra Lichty and Debra Rose. Joann Martins was the Organist. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville cemetery.

Casket bearers were Julie Schultz, Daron J.W. Heckman, Nick W.. Heckman, Teresa J. Kurash, Scott E. Heckmann, Christopher L. Haviland, Lee G. Ney and Clorisa Heckmann

This original obituary for Inez is not quite accurate. In the section for "preceded in death" it states that she had two sons, Gene Heckmann and Allan J. Heckmann" who were deceased. The name "Gene" is not correct. This son would be Gary Lee Heckmann (his obituary is posted on this obit board). Allan died in 1974 and Gary died in 1975.

Also the obituary states that Inez and Arbie were the parents of 13 children. The obituary listed the surviving children, except son John Heckmann was omitted as a surviving member of the family.
