Robert B. O'Hara

Robert B. O'Hara, 76, of Waukon, died Friday, March 12, 2004, at his home in Waukon, following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Monday, March 15 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, with Father Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial was in Mt Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Bernard O'Hara was born August 20, 1927, in Waukon, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Catherine (Ryan) O'Hara. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's the Baptist West Ridge Catholic Church and attended elementary school at the Lafayette Center, rural Lansing, and Waterville High School. After high school Robert worked on the family farm.

From 1952 to 1954 he served in the U.S. Army as a cook. Robert then moved back to help on the family farm. He worked for the Holland Brothers from 1969 to 1972. Robert then bought his own farm in the Frankville Township where he worked very hard raising beef cattle, sheep, and had several horses which he loved. He also worked at Norplex in Postville until he retired in 1990. Following retirement he moved to Waukon.

Robert was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with family and hosted the family picnic for many years. Robert also enjoyed watching horse pulls, looking at old farm machinery, and listening to the two cylinder engines running.

Survivors include three brothers, James (Mae) of Lowell, Ark., John (Jennie) of Decorah, and Ken (Shirley) of Waukon; a sister, Kathryn Scudella of Oak Lawn, Ill.; 20 nieces and nephews; 34 great-nieces and nephews; and 20 great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald; and two sisters, Frances Schwartz and Dorothy Zeimet.

Casketbearers were Roger, Daniel, and Michael O'Hara; Bruce Scudella; and Robert and Jerry Zeimet.
