Florence M. Stockman

Florence M. Stockman, 86, of Postville, formerly of Waukon, died Tuesday, February 24, 2004, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union, Iowa, following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Friday, February 27 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, with Father Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial was in Postville Cemetery in Postville. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements.

Florence Mary Duffy was born June 6, 1917, in Waukon, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (McNalley) Duffy. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Florence attended Waterville Elementary School and Waukon High School.

On June 25, 1936, she married Lester J. Stockman in Decorah. They farmed together in Post Township, rural Postville, for several years before retiring in 1976. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Florence enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening, painting, baking, especially home made bread, and angel food cake.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen (David) Handley of Lubbock, Texas, and Sharon Stockman of Lexington, Ky.; a son, Gene (Annemarie) Stockman of Postville; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester, who died in 1989; an infant son, Jimmie; a sister, Cecelia Mitchell; and a brother, Harold Duffy.

Honorary casketbearers were Korey and Kelsey Stockman, David, Danielle, and Kristina Handley, Stephanie Hoelcher, and Emily and Paul Spies Jr. Casketbearers were Bruce, Viktoria, Brian, and Maureen Stockman and Barbara and Paul Spies.
