PALMA GEVING

Palma A. Geving, 97, of Waukon, Iowa, died Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 3 at 10 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon with Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial will be held in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Palma Alica Vangen was born August 18, 1907, in Skaim Hollow in Winneshiek County, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Georgina (Hagen) Vangen. She was baptized and confirmed at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in rural Decorah and attended several country schools in Winneshiek County.

September 16, 1925, she married Joseph Geving at Pontoppidan Church. They farmed several farms in Allamakee County before moving to Waukon in 1944. Palma worked at the Lansing Button Factory, Goodrich Produce, candled eggs at the Waukon Food Ranch, and later worked at the Turkey Plant in Postville before retiring in 1983.

Palma was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and WELCA. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, fishing, bowling, watching birds, and she loved playing cards.

Survivors include her daughter, LaVonne (Roger) Hesse of Waukon; five grandchildren, Gary (Mary Ann) Hesse, Randy (Lori) Hesse, Holly Hesse, Wendy (Jody) Bucheit and Perry (Marcia) Hesse; ten great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Joseph, who died January 11, 1976; three sisters, Celia Anderson, Ellen Duvel, and Rebecca Vangen; and a brother, Palmer Vangen.

Casketbearers are Gary, Randy, and Holly Hesse, Wendy Bucheit, Perry Hesse, Jody Bucheit, and Heath and Heidi Hesse.
