James Blake

James J. Blake, 61, of Hampton, Fla., died Thursday, July 7, 2005, at his home. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 14, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Hanover, with Fr. Jerry Blake officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hanson Funeral Home of Waukon was in charge of arrangements.

Jim was born May 15, 1944, in Waukon, Iowa, the son of John P. and Mary E. (Hammell) Blake. He graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Waukon. He served in the US Navy from 1962 to 1966.

On February 17, 1973, he married Linda K. Blake at St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.

Jim was a farmer and enjoyed working with the land. He not only loved his farm, but also ran a landscaping business for a number of years.

Jim was a member of St. William’s Catholic Church in Keystone. He enjoyed a great loving relationship with his nieces and nephews.

Survivors include his wife, Linda K. Blake of Hampton, Fla.; his mother, Mrs. John P. Blake of Waukon; his siblings, Mary (Don) Klauke of Dorchester, Betty (Dennis) Regan of Waukon, Carol (Don) Hatch of Center Point, Bonnie (Jack) Sweeney of Waukon, Cathy (Jim) Wadsworth of Waukon, Donna Cummings of Mechanicsville, John Blake of Waukon, Fr. Jerry Blake of Forest City, Francis Blake of Waukon, Con (Beth) Blake of Rogers, Minn., Julie (Steve) Phillips of Omaha, Neb., and Dan (Jean) Blake of Prairie du Chien; and 35 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, John P. Blake.

Honorary casketbearers were Tom Blake, Danny Regan, Fred Klauke, Therese Klauke, Jim Wadsworth, Alice Blake, and Matthew Blake. Casketbearers were John Blake, Francis Blake, Con Blake, Dan Blake, Ed Blake, and Larry Blake.
