Hazel Irene Martin

Services for Hazel Irene Martin, 74, of Waukon, were held at the Martin Funeral Chapel in Waukon Tuesday, Feb. 21. Rev. Larry Olson officiated and interment was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, rural Waukon. She died Feb. 18 at Northgate Care Center.

She was born Feb. 21, 1915 in the Waterville area to Ben and Effie Martin Rongstad. She was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Waterville. She received her education in the Waterville schools.

May 19, 1932, she married James Martin in Waukon. He died in September of 1968.

From 1975 to 1988 she lived in Cedar Rapids before returning to Waukon.

She is survived by 3 daughters; Mrs. Oakley (Joyce) Sickels, Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Cletus (Norma) Fish, and Doris Bechtel, Waukon; 5 sons: Wayne, Harlan and Charles, Waukon; Earl, Marion and Dennis, Albany, LA; 19 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren, a brother and 2 sisters.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred and 2 half-brothers, Adrian and Lawrence Brandois.

Casket bearers were Russ Martin, Dean Penkalski, Scott Brimeyer, Bryan Fish, Dave Sickles and Kirk Fish.
