FRED MARTENS

The death of Fred Martens, 85, occurred at the Mrs. Clara Waterman nursing home Saturday, March 9. He had been ill for several weeks and was cared for by Mrs. Bernard Deeney at the Deeney Hotel for a week preceding his death. Funeral services were held at Schutte funeral home in Postville Tuesday, March 12, with burial in the Postville cemetery.

Mr. Martens was born in Germany and was a farmer until he retired. He is survived by the following children: Ed Martens, Cedar Rapids, Lester Martens, Oelwein; Mrs. Clinton Smith, Postville; Mrs. Harold Turner and Arthur Martens, both of Fort Collins, Colorado. Mrs. Martens preceded her husband in death.
