Rites Held For Mrs. Martens

Funeral services for Mrs. Fred J. Martens of Waukon were held in Zion Reformed Church of Waukon on Saturday, September 12, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. E. L. Henning officiating.

Mrs. Martens passed away at her home September 9 following a lingering illness. Interment was made in Postville cemetery.

As Louise Marie Brockmeyer, daughter of Carl and Henrietta Lampe-Brockmeyer, she was born January 7, 1880 near LaVern Westphalia, Germany. In July, 1896 at the age of 16, she came to America with her parents and settled near Postville.

She was united in marriage with Fred J. Martens at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville on February 18, 1902. They lived in the territory of Winneshiek and Allamakee counties.

Mrs. Martens is survived by her husband and five children, Lester of Decorah, Mrs. Clinton E. Smith of Postville, Arthur of Fort Collins, Colorado, Mrs. Harold B. Turner of Postville, and Edward Martens of Waukon; 19 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one brother, William Brockmeyer; and one sister, Mrs. Fred Stopperan.
