Roland Dundee

Funeral services for Roland Dundee were held Friday, July 1, 2005, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. The Reverend Allen Hermeier officiated. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Roland Lee Dundee was born October 20, 1923, to John Henry and Clara Bell (Lawson) Dundee, in Allamakee County, near Waukon. He passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at his home in Postville at the age of 81.

He was baptized in the Forest Mills Church and attended the rural schools near his home. Rollie served in the US Army during World War II.

On August 31, 1948, Rollie was married to LaVerna Marie Heins in Waukon. To this union six children were born. He was employed at the Hygrade Packing Plant for many years. During his life, he worked at various jobs including the UBC Lumber Yard, the REC, and Cal and Cora’s Phillips 66 Station. For 29 years he drove a school bus for Postville Community Schools.

Rollie was well-known in the community and frequently went for walks, stopping to visit with friends along the way. He helped with various auctions, setting them up and working as a “ring-man.” He loved his grandchildren, enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, and going to the nearby casino.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry Dundee; two brothers, Duane Dundee and Curtis Dundee; a brother-in-law, John Leo Jones; and a sister-in-law, Laura Dundee.

Surviving are his children, Dennis (Linda) Dundee of Elma, Barbara (Terry) Bohr of Ossian, Bonnie Erickson of Postville, Loren “Pete” Dundee and friend Mary of West Union, and Randy (Francine) Dundee of Woodland Park, Colo.; 18 grandchildren, John, Jolene, Jeff (Holly), Brian (Kari), Chad, Jennifer, Tami, Jodi (Aaron), Travis, Aaron, Katie, Sarah, Madison, Reece Roland, Nicholas, Kerra, Korey, and Kyle; five great-grandchildren, Megan, Rebecca, Jayce, Hannah, and Brenna; a brother, Dean (Sally) Dundee of Marion, Iowa; and two sisters, Betty (Edwin) Hawkins of Waukon and Dorothy Jones of Prairie du Chien, Wis.

Roland was more than just an uncle to his nieces and nephews, he was a true friend, remembers nephew Donald Pixler.

Casketbearers were Travis Erickson, Brian Bohr, Jeff Jones, Chuck Hawkins, Dean Dundee Jr., and Aaron Dundee. Honorary casketbearers were Jerry Heins, Leonard Benson, Myron Brye, Noel Cook, Kenny Ewing, L. D. “Doc” Trudo, and Paul Benjegerdes.
