Donald Bahr

Donald F. Bahr, 80, of Waukon, Iowa, died Friday, July 1, 2005, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Tuesday July 5 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. Joseph Schneider and Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements.

Donald Frederick Bahr was born December 16, 1924, in Waukon, the son of Albert and Margaret (Helming) Bahr. He was baptized and confirmed in Waukon, attended Ludlow No. 1 country school, and graduated from Waukon High School in 1943.

On August 13, 1946, he married Elaine Thomson in Waukon. Don and Elaine farmed in Ludlow Township where they milked cows and raised crops. Following his retirement from the dairy in 1969, Don worked for Kerndt Monument Works of Waukon from 1969 to 1987. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Allamakee County Farm Bureau. Don enjoyed taking rides in the countryside, bowling, and golfing. He also enjoyed taking care of his family and visiting with friends. He was an accomplished woodworker and spent many hours crafting gifts for his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine of Waukon; his children, Linda (Bill) Cook of Waukon, Dennis “Borg” (Irene) of Prairie du Chien, Wis., and David (Rhonda) and Dani (Janice), both of Waukon; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles “Chic” Bahr and a sister, Elsa Hager, both of Waukon.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Honorary casketbearers were Jennifer Mahoney, Jessica Board, and Brianna Bahr. Casketbearers were Ron, Mike, and Chad Adam; Donnie, Brian, Bryce, and Cody Bahr; Dana Mahoney; and Steve Board.
