Mrs. DICK (Mary M. Mooney) Birdsell MOHN

Mary M. Mohn, 89, of Waukon, died Sunday, January 11, 2004, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 14, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon with Father Joseph Schneider and Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial will be held in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon where there will be a 5:00 p.m. Scripture Service.

Mary Margaret Mooney was born August 19, 1914, on her parent's Wexford farm, rural Lansing, the daughter of Michael and Bridget (Kernan) Mooney. She was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Wexford and attended rural elementary schools in the Lansing area and graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic School in 1932. Mary also attended teacher's school in Cedar Falls, where she received her teacher's certificate. She married Donald Birdsell in 1938 at Dubuque, Iowa. He passed away in 1942. On October 16, 1945, she married Dick Mohn at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon. Mary worked as a bookkeeper at Schultz Variety Store for many years. She then stayed at home with the children. Mary also worked as a bookkeeper at Great Plains for many years before retiring. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and its ladies circles. Mary was also a member of St. Theresa Little Flower Study Club. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and also enjoyed crocheting, and taking care of her plants, especially her violets. Mary enjoyed cooking, especially apple pies, cinnamon rolls, and bread.

Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth (David) Spehar of Greendale, Wis., and Donna (Dave) Dull of Postville; two sons, Robert (Margie) Birdsell of Mequon, Wis., and Bill (JoEllen) Mohn of Madrid, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Donald Birdsell and Dick Mohn; two sisters, Catherine Wadsworth and Alice Mooney.

Casketbearers are Greg Spehar; Dan Haag; Rob, Brian, and Andy Birdsell; Jason Steiner; Brett Wilcox; and Josh Phillips.
