EARL FRANK ZEZULKA, Sr.

Earl F. Zezulka Sr., 84, of Waukon, died Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Friday, January 2, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon with Father Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial with graveside military rites was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements.

Earl Frank Zezulka Sr. was born July 3, 1919, in Union City Township, rural New Albin, the son of Frank Michael and Amelia Alreka (Buege) Zezulka. He attended French Creek area rural school. When he was a teenager, he and his family moved to Chicago for several years before moving back to the French Creek area.

Earl served in the US Army from August 13, 1941, to June 19, 1945. On September 1, 1948, he married Dorothy Adella Russell at St. Bridgets Catholic Church in Ridgeway, Wis. After they were married, they farmed together in Union City Township for many years. Earl also worked construction for several years before moving to Waukon in 1999.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Earl enjoyed spending time with his family and also enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially for fox and coon.

Survivors include six daughters, Diana (Tom) Deeney, Gail (Ron) Curtin, Carmen McCormick (fiancee John Farley), and Angela Zezulka, all of Waukon, Bonnie (John) Meyer of Spring Grove, Minn., and Amy (Ferdic) Garcia of Buffalo Grove, Ill.; four sons, James Zezulka, Arnold (Shirley) Zezulka, and John Zezulka, all of Dorchester, and Earl Jr. (Heather) Zezulka of Waukon; 34 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Dorothy; a son, Edward Zezulka; a brother, Raymond Zezulka; and a sister, Leora Schuttemeier Ruidi.

Casketbearers were grandsons Charles, James, Joseph, John, and Matthew Deeney; Chad and Jeremy Curtin; Jeff Zezulka; Jack Meyer; and Trent McCormick.
