DONALD MOYER

Donald Moyer, 78, of Downers Grove, Ill., died Friday, December 12, 2003. Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 17 at First Presbyterian Church, Downers Grove. Burial was in the military section of Clarendon Hills, Ill., cemetery.

Donald was born in Cedar Falls, Iowa, March 4, 1925, the son of William and Minnie (Hansmeier) Moyer. He grew up in Waukon and graduated from Waukon High School in 1943.

Immediately upon graduation, he entered the United States Army Air Force, having enlisted before graduation. He served as an air crew member on a B-24 in the European Theatre and was stationed in Italy. After completing his military service, Donald went to Chicago, Ill., and worked for International Harvester Company, where, in time, he became Chief Engineer, hydraulics and hydrostatics section, Farm Equipment Research and Development Center. He retired in 1982.

On July 9, 1949, he married Rita Eisa in Chicago. She survives with two daughters, Anita (Tim) Schilling of Bolingbrook, Ill., and Leslie (Marty) Carway of Naperville, Ill.; one son-in-law, James (Barb) Gleason of Clarendon Hills; eight grandchildren, Erin and Megan Gleason, Joe, Sam, Philip, Isaac, and Stephen Heaton, and Justin Carway; one sister, Marian Smedsrud of Waukon; one niece, Susan (Roger) Schlitter of Mason City, Iowa; and one nephew, Donn (Joan) Smedsrud of Decorah, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Ellen Gleason; and a brother-in-law, Arden Smedsrud.

Casketbearers were James Gleason, Tim Schilling, Marty Carway, Joe Heaton, Donn Smedsrud, and Roger Schlitter.
