Mrs. CHARLES (Myrtle Irene Gosden) AITCHISON 1887-1974

Funeral services for Mrs. Myrtle G. Aitchison were held in the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, on Tuesday, October 1, 1974 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Dick F. Harberts officiating. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.

Myrtle Irene Gosden, daughter of Henry Gosden and Mary Ann (Bevan) Gosden, was born on December 12, 1887 in rural Hazel Valley near Cascade, Iowa. After graduation from Farley, Iowa High School, she was a teacher for a number of years in the rural schools of Dubuque and Jones Counties.

Following her marriage to Charles Fletcher Aitchison on November 4, 1919 in her parent's home near Cascade, Iowa, they lived in several communities in the Dubuque and Waterloo areas of Iowa. They became parents of one daughter.

In 1943 Mrs. Aitchison moved from Manchester, Iowa to Postville and for a time served as librarian at the Postville Library. For the past twenty-eight years she has made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Burling, in Postville.

She was a member of the Postville Community Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Women's Association. She was also a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star and belonged to the Postville Past Worth Matrons Club.

Mrs. Aitchison passed away at Community Memorial hospital in Postville on Saturday, September 28, 1974.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Clifford Leroy and Henry Earl Gosden. Surviving are one daughter, Merna A. (Mrs. Robert H.) Burling; one brother, James Alfred Gosden of Cascade, Iowa; three grandsons; and other relatives and friends.
