William LeRoy Chamberlain 1890-1962

Funeral services were held Friday, October 5, 1962, at 2:00 p.m. at the Methodist church in Hawkeye, Iowa for William LeRoy Chamberlain who passed away suddenly October 2, 1962 at his home with a heart ailment. The Rev Patrick Flaherty was in charge of the rites. Burial was in Hawkeye cemetery.

William LeRoy Chamberlain was born on a farm in Franklin township, Allamakee county, Iowa north of Luana on May 11, 1890, the son of Albert L. and Anna Sutcliffe Chamberlain. He received his education in the North Grove rural school and graduated from the Postville high school.

On August 6, 1912 he was married to Helen Laughlin. After farming a few years near Postville and in the West Union vicinity they moved to West Union where he was manager of the Commission company. In 1932 they became residents of Hawkeye where, for several years, he was manager of the Farmer's Elevator Company. He served on the Hawkeye board of education and on the town council. He was a member of the Methodist church, the Masonic lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Iowa Consistory of Cedar Rapids.

Surviving are his wife, Helen; one son, Carlton A. Chamberlain, Ann Arbor, Michigan; three daughters, (Mildred) Mrs. Richard Price, Lincoln Park, New Jersey; (Bette) Mrs. Arthur Brandes, Waterloo; (Elizabeth) Mrs. Robert Robinson, Creston; one brother, Leon E. Chamberlain, Postville; and 11 grandchildren.
