Mrs. ALBERT (Mary Anna Sutcliffe) CHAMBERLAIN

Funeral services were held on Tuesday at the Community Presbyterian Church for Mrs. Mary CHAMBERLAIN, who passed away at her home here Saturday. Burial was in Postville cemetery. Final rites were conducted by Rev. Walter T. Martin of the Community Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Walter T. MARTIN was soloist and Mrs. Robert BURLING, organist.

Mary Anna SUTCLIFFE, daughter of James and Anna SUTCLIFFE was born at Hastings, Minnesota on January 19, 1865 and passed away May 28, 1849 a her home in Postville. Her childhood home was on the prairies of Minnesota. At the age of nine years she was left motherless and assumed the care of four younger sisters and brothers. In 1882 her family moved to Franklin township, Allamakee county where she continued to help care for the family and to teach rural school.

On January 31, 1889 she was united in marriage to Albert L. CHAMBERLAIN and to this couple were born two sons; W. L. CHAMBERLAIN of Hawkeye, and Leon E. CHAMBERLAIN of Postville.

Mrs. CHAMBERLAIN and her husband engaged in farming in Franklin township until 1917 when they moved to West Union, where they resided two years. In 1919 they purchased a home in Postville. Her husband passed away on July 4, 1937. Mrs. CHAMBERLAIN continued to live in the home until the time of her death.

Besides her two sons, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ella McNEIL, South Pasadena, California; Mrs. H. F. DEMING, Grace, Vanderbilt, Michigan. Two brothers, Samuel and Charles, both of Mason City, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
