CHARLES VICKROUS DAVIS 1881-1959

Charles Vickrous Davis, son of John and Lodema [Ewing] Davis, was born November 17, 1881 in Post township, Postville and passed away at the University Hospital at Iowa City, August 17, 1959.

Mr. Davis was a life-long resident of Allamakee county. He received his education in the rural schools of Post township, and was engaged in farming until his health failed him a few years ago. He had since been cared for at the Good Samaritan Home at Waukon.

In 1909 he was united in marriage to Lottie Colvin, she preceded him in death in 1925. On August 18, 1928 he was united in marriage to Mary [Daly] Kaveny. Three daughters and one son was born to this union; Darlene, Mrs. Bernard VanHam of Aurora, Illinois; Elaine, Mrs. James Ward of Waukon; Kathy, who preceded him in death at the age of three, and Charles, who also preceded him in death at the age of six months.

Three brothers, Carl, Burl and Jake preceded him in death. Besides his two daughters he leaves to mourn his passing the following relatives: his wife, Eugina Davis; four brothers, Ben of Postville, Lester of Bruce, Wisconsin, Leo of Rippon, Wisconsin and Arthur of Beloit, Wisconsin; two sisters, Mrs. Leona Rupp of Waukon, and Mrs. Evora Fiet of Garnavillo; also a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Davis was a member of the Forest Mills E. U. B. Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge of Postville.

Services were from the Martin Brothers Funeral Home, with the Rev. Curtis H. Webster, of the Forest Mills E. U. B. Church officiating. Burial was made in the Oakland Cemetery at Waukon.
