Clifford W. DeGarmo, 52, editor and co-publisher of the Postville Herald, died Sunday, August 4, 1968 at his home following an illness of several months. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 6, at the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, with the Rev. Dick Harberts officiating. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery with military rites in charge of the Arthur F. Brandt Post No. 518, American Legion.

Clifford Wesley DeGarmo, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. DeGarmo, was born January 6, 1916 at Early, Iowa. He was a graduate of Early High School, attended Buena Vista College at Storm Lake and was a graduate of the University of South Dakota.

On September 8, 1948 he was married to Maxine Steward of Perry at Farnhamville, Iowa. To this union, two children were born, Kay Lynne and Thomas Charles.

The deceased was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder; a member of the Postville Kiwanis Club; past president of the Postville Commercial club; served on the State Board of the Iowa Association of Mentally Retarded; and was a member of the Arthur F. Brandt Post No. 518 of the American Legion. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the European Theater as a Captain with the U. S. Army. Mr. DeGarmo was an active and interested leader in the progress of community affairs.

He was employed at the Hampton Chronicle at Hampton, Iowa, prior to coming to Postville in 1948 when he became co-publisher with Fred L. Martin and editor of the Postville Herald.

He was preceded in death by one sister, one brother, and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Maxine; two children, Kay Lynne and Thomas Charles; two brothers, H. F. DeGarmo of Early and the Rev. J. L. DeGarmo of Mason City.
