A Funeral Mass for Igor Masnyk was held Saturday, June 4, 2005 at 12:30 p.m. in St. Bridget Catholic Church in Postville, Iowa. Concelebrants were Father Richard Gaul and Father Paul Ouderkirk. Lana Vanchugova was the Lector. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Igor Bogdanovich Masnyk was born on July 12, 1956 in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. Igor’s mother, Oleno Galko died at the age of 38. Igor’s father, Bogdan Masnyk and his younger sister, Lesya Masnyk are still living in the Ukraine.

After Igor received his high school diploma, he entered the University Of Technology. In 1978, Igor married Lyubov Dmitrivna Veretko. Following his marriage, he entered the army.

Igor’s son, Ruslan Igorovich Masnyk was born on October 24, 1980. His daughter, Marta Igorivna Masnyk was born on March 30, 1989.

In the Ukraine, Igor worked as an engineer for a few years and later opened his own business. He was always very active and tried to help people. Igor was a politician prior to coming to the United States.

Igor moved to Postville, Iowa in 1996 and was employed at Agriprocessors along with his wife, Lyubov. In 2000 Igor’s family moved to Chicago for a year and then returned to Postville. Igor became a supervisor at Agriprocessors.

Igor purchased a house on Williams Street in 2001. He loved to work on his yard and garden, planting trees and flowers around the house. He wanted everything to be perfect. He was a very good handyman and did all of the work both inside and outside of the house by himself. He enjoyed gardening and fishing as well. Igor was a good father, husband, and friend. He will always be missed by his family, friends, and the entire community.
