Mrs. HAROLD (Betty Lea Huffman) EVERMAN

Funeral services for Betty Everman were held Monday, August 6, 2001 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Reverend Robert Hupp officiated. Special music was provided by Ronald Meyer, soloist and Joann Martins, organist. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

The Casket Bearers were: Dan Straate, Steven Montour, Hall Everman, Mike Looney, Mike Mead, Doug Mounce, Dale Simmons.

Betty Lea Huffman Everman, was born April 20, 1928, on the family farm in Allamakee County near Rossville, Iowa. She passed away Thursday, August 2, in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa. She had reached the age of 73 years, three months, and four days.

She was baptized and confirmed March 12, 1950, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville by the Reverend Frederick R. Lugwig. She attended the Rossville School.

On September 15, 1948 Betty was married to Harold Charles Everman at New Hampton, Iowa. To this union four children were born, Randall, Marsha, Craig, and Troy.

They farmed south of Postville until 1992 when they moved to town. Betty was an outgoing fun-loving person who enjoyed her family and friends. She loved the river and being at their cabin in Harpers Ferry and went fishing whenever she could. Betty also liked to play cards and cook.

Before her marriage, Betty worked for the UpTown Cafe in Monona, and tended bar for various owners in Postville, including several years at the Hi-Way Lanes Bowling alley in Postville. Betty was an avid bowler and was the first woman inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame, where she held numerous offices.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a son, Randall Charles Everman, who died December 5, 1963, a sister, Imagene (Harvey) Montour, a brother-in-law, Joe Mead, and a sister-in-law, Orpha (Peg) Huffman.

Surviving is her husband, Harold, a daughter, Marsha Lynn and her husband, Duane Gerleman of Monona, Iowa, two sons, Craig Francis Everman of Clermont, and Troy David Everman and his wife, Amy, of Postville; 7 grandchildren, Veronica Gerleman Colvin and husband, Seth; Kristopher Gerleman, Danielle Gerleman, Kymm Gerleman, Trevor Everman, Blaine Everman, and Morgan Everman; three step grandchildren, Jordon, Patrik, and Alyson Winterscheid.

Also surviving are three sisters, Neva Mead of Center Junction, IA, June and husband, Leonard Serbousek, of Center Junction, IA, Francis Huffman of Marion, IA, Shirley and husband, Harry Straate, of Waukon, IA, and a brother-in-law, Harvey Montour of Prairie du Chien, WI.
