JAMES VICKERY EWING 1813-1884

Last Sunday Mr. James V. Ewing, of Franklin twp., father of Mrs. David Douglass, died at the age of 74 years. The funeral took place yesterday, the sermon by Rev. B. Hall. Mr. Ewing was one of the early settlers of the county, a man well known, a good citizen respected by his neighbors. He was a man of large physical proportions, being 6 feet 6 inches tall, and well proportioned.

Submitter notes: James Vickery Ewing was born November 1, 1813, according to his death certificate, the son of George and Hannah (Boyle) Ewing. He married Elizabeth French on December 12, 1835 at Rome, Indiana. James died January 21, 1884 of pneumonia. His children were: Joshus French Ewing (born 1836; died in infancy), Daniel Webster Ewing (1837-died after 1909), Mrs. David (Rose Ann) Fisher (1839-after 1909), Hiram Carl Ewing (1841-1842), Alexander Scott Ewing (1843-1902), Mrs. James (Hannah Elizabeth) Chambers (1845-after 1905), Jacob Wilson Ewing (1847-1931), Mrs. David (Adeline) Douglass, James Elliott Ewing (1852-1856), Elnora Ewing (1855-1856) and Mrs. John (Lodema Loduska) Davis (1858-1935).
