FREDERICK "Fred" GROTEGUT
Frederick Grotegut, resident of Frankville Township died at home in Frankville Thursday morning June 5, 1930.
Deceased was born April 9, 1859 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin where under parental care he received his secular and spiritual education. At age 26 he came with parents to Frankville township where they settled on what is known as the Grotegut homestead.
On March 23, 1887 he married Miss Minnie Stock and had twelve children, 5 sons and 7 daughters. Stayed on the farm until 1917, then moved to Frankville. He became seriously ill with bronchial trouble. He was 71 years, 1 month and 6 days old.
Leaves to mourn his wife, 3 sons and 4 daughters: John of Frankville township, Simon and Albert of Ludlow, Mrs. Thomas [Emma] Henning of Ludlow, Mrs. Olive* Herman, Union Prairie; Mrs. John [Lydia] Lundt and Mrs. Victor [Mable] Heins of Post township; 21 grandchildren survive. Four children died in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. W. H. [Martha] Snitker died 5 years ago.
Survived by 2 brothers and six sisters: John and Henry of Waukon, Mrs. Henry [Marie] Beibermeier of Timonthy, Wisconsin; Mrs. Henry [Sophia] Hager of Frankville, Mrs. Fred [Henrietta] Becker of Waukon, Mrs. Fred [Amelia] Bechtel of Frankville and Mrs. W. G. [Lena] Snitker of Ludlow and Mrs. Lydia Thoma of Oakdale. Three sisters preceded him in death.
Note: Fred was buried at the Salem Reformed Church cemetery, as was Minnie. Fred's parents were Simon Heinrick and Wilhelmina Caroline (Goeke) Grotegut. Minnie died December 24, 1961 in Winneshiek County, Iowa. Minnie's full name was Wilhelmina Henrietta Stock, daughter of Frederick and Caroline (Ottmeyer) Stock.
*Mrs. Olive Herman should be Mrs. Elmer (Mary Grotegut) Herman. The three sisters preceding him in death were: Mrs. Daniel (Clara) Snitker, 1926; Annie Grotegut, 1928 and Mrs. Emil (Minnie) Boettcher.unknown newspaper - contributed by Mary Durr
