Mrs. SHELDON (Florence A. Sebastian) Schutte HALL 1908-1997

Florence Ann (Sebastian) Hall, the daughter of Frank D. and Lydia (Nolte) Sebastian, was born August 11, 1908, in Post Township, Allamakee County, near Postville, Iowa. She passed away Wednesday, September 10, 1997, in the Bethany Riverside Nursing Home in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. She had reached the age of 89 years and 29 days.

She was baptized October 11, 1908 by the Rev. Kuhne and confirmed August 22, 1922, by the Rev. Schmidt, both in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville.

Florence attended the rural school near her home and was graduated from Postville High School. She attended a nurses' training course. She later became an L.P.N.

On October 25, 1930 she was married to Emmett "Pete" Schutte. To this union a daughter, Carol Ann, was born. Pete died in 1940. On October 18, 1949, Florence was married to Sheldon Hall at Postville, Iowa.

Florence had taught in the rural schools from 1926 to 1930. She lived in Luana from 1934 to 1945. In 1945 Florence began working at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville where she remained for over 40 years. She enjoyed her work as a nurse.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Pete and Sheldon, a grandson-in-law, Paul Czech, one brother, Robert Sebastian, and a sister-in-law, Bernice Sebastian.

Surviving is her daughter, Carol Jones, two granddaughters, Danette Ann Czech, Floshelle Durnan and fiance, Michael Brewster, three great grandchildren, Heather Ann Czech, Lydia and Mikey Brewster, all of LaCrescent, MN, one brother, Harlan Sebastian of Charles City, IA and a sister-in-law, Frances (Mrs. Harlan Sebastian), other relatives and many friends.

Florence was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and the Women of the ELCA. During her life she was active in the church and taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Florence especially enjoyed being with her family and caring for the patients who came to the hospital. Interment: Postville cemetery.

Funeral services for Florence Hall were held Saturday, September 13, 1997 at 1 p.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. The Rev. Duane Baardseth officiated assisted by Rev. Mark A. Anderson, both of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, LaCrescent, Minn. Marian Schutte was the organist and Kim Schutte was the soloist. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Lyle Sebastian, Victor Sebastian, Leon Lechford, Lynn Pantington, Mark Welch, Martin Schutte and Romandus Gisleson.

Honorary casket bearers were Wayne Timmerman, Leo Chaput and Dave Frederickson.
