Mrs. ROBERT R. (Gratia Skinner) JACKSON 1825-1898

At Harper's Ferry, Allamakee Co., Iowa, Jan. 14, 1898, Mrs. Gratia Jackson, aged 71 years, 9 months and 20 days.

Gratia Skinner was born in Westford, N. Y., March 24, 1825.

She was married to Robt. R. Jackson Oct. 11, 1848. For forty-nine years and three months they walked together in the path of life until their ways parted for a time at the River's brink.

For several years after marriage Mr. And Mrs. Jackson remained in N. Y., but in 1860 they came west staying for one year at Prairie du Chien, Wis., after which they settled at Harper's Ferry in 1861.

Mrs. Jackson's health, never good, becoming very poor, she and her husband traveled overland for weeks, beginning in Sept. 1879. Her health improving greatly, they settled in Nemeha Co., Kansas. Five years since on account of returning ill health they returned to Harper's Ferry where she remained until her death.

To them was born only one child, Geo. F. Jackson, who has been a successful merchant of Harper's Ferry for many years.

Mrs. Jackson made profession of Faith in 1850, and was true to her profession. She never joined any church but labored with one and another as she has opportunity. For many years she had expected the end to come at any time and had always expressed her willingness and readiness to go. The end, when it came, had no terrors, but pointing upward and telling of a great light shining brighter and brighter and of her welcome there she passed peacefully o'er.

Peacefully rest! They sorrow o'er.
Joyfully tread the Golden Shore.
Fill with thy love the mansion fair,
Wait for thy loved ones gathering there.

The funeral services were conducted at the home in Harper's Ferry by Rev. R. L. Vannice of Waukon, after which the body was brought to Waukon and laid to rest in Oakland Cemetery.
