JOSEPH AUGUST KOEVENIG 1864-1947

Funeral services were held here Sunday afternoon at the Schutte funeral home for J. A. Koevenig, 83, a longtime business man of Postville, who had passed away last Thursday at his home in this city following a protracted period of failing health. The Rev. F. R. Ludwig officiated at the services and interment was in Postville cemetery.

Joseph August Koevenig was born January 19, 1864, at McGregor as the son of August A. and Anna Philips Koevenig. When he was one year old he came with his parents to Postville and this had been his home throughout the remaining years of his life.

He was united in marriage with Miss Christina Blumhagen of Postville on February 4, 1897, and to this union three children were born, of whom two sons, Adolph of Hill City, So. Dak., and Louis of Postville, survive, one child passing away in infancy.

Mr. Koevenig was for many years identified with the business life of Postville, retiring on February 1, 1932.

In addition to his widow and two sons, he is survived by two grandsons, Gene Koevenig of Hill City, So. Dak., and James Koevenig of Postville.
