Mrs. FRED W. (Helen M. Bechtel) KUGEL 1900-1992

Helen M. Kugel, the daughter of Edward Bechtel and Henrietta Hager, was born December 18, 1900 on her parents farm in Ludlow Township in Allamakee county. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. She attended Ludlow #7 rural elementary school and was very active at Bethlehem Church in ladies' organizations and in the choir.

On January 5, 1927, she married Fred W. Kugel at the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church parsonage in rural Postville. She and her husband farmed in Ludlow until moving to Waukon in 1971.

She loved cats and took care of many of them while on the farm. She also liked to garden and to travel and took numerous bus tours with Fred around the country.

Helen died November 14, 1992, at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Surviving are a sister, Martha Althouse of Postville; a sister-in-law, Clara Kugel of Waukon, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1992 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. The Rev. James Elvig officiated.

Pallbearers were Ben Fiet, Clifton Christianson, Milo Kloke, Leo Klocke, Robert Stock, and Marlin Pausch.

Burial was at Bethlehem cemetery. Arrangements were made by Martin Funeral Home, Waukon, Iowa.
