THOMAS MANNING

On Sunday, at 11 p.m., Thos. Manning, mention of whose dangerous illness with pneumonia appeared in our last, passed to his eternal reward. Mr. Manning was born in County Cork, Ireland, Jan 1, 1822. He came to America in 1845 and in August, 1817, at Dunamora, Clinton County N. Y. was married to Mary Shanley, who preceded him in death a year ago the first of this month. They came to Iowa in 1863, settling in Lafayette township, which was their residence until called to that home above not built by hands.

Four sons and four daughters survive them, all residents of Lafayette, save Jerry of South Dakota, and Mrs. P. Duffy of Emmetsburg, and two sons were summoned in advance of them. All were present at his bedside before death to receive the blessing of an ever tender, careful and affectionate father. His brother Patrick, eight years his senior, who lives near Waukon, was also with him in his last hours, which were peaceful and full of hope in a life beyond. The funeral takes place at Wexford church today. Peace to the ashes of a good man.
