HELMUTH JOSEPH MEYER

Funeral services were held Monday, February 28, 1966 at St. Paul Lutheran Church for Helmuth J. Meyer, who passed away February 22, 1966 at his home in Flagstaff, Arizona following an extended illness. The Rev. L. L. Monte, pastor of St. Paul's, was in charge of the rites; burial was in Bloomfield cemetery, Castalia. Services in Arizona had been held at Scottsdale on Wednesday night with the Rev. Conrad Braaten, in charge.

Helmuth Joseph Henry Meyer, son of Helmuth H. Meyer and Mary Meier, was born November 20, 1900 at Garnavillo, Clayton county. He was baptized and confirmed at Garnavillo.

He was married to Florence Marie Eggers of Postville on October 20, 1925. To this union were born three children: Leo of Scottsdale, Arizona; Doris (Mrs. Paul Embretson) of Iowa City; and Mary (Mrs. Allen Thompson) of Phoenix.

The deceased was raised on a farm near Castalia. Mr. Meyer was associated with Midwest Lumber Company of Dubuque for 30 years. He was with the company two years in Waukon and then moved to Postville where he was manager of the lumber yard here until his retirement on January 1, 1965. On his retirement, he and Mrs. Meyer moved to Arizona.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church; the Odd Fellows; four-county lumberman's association; Postville Commercial Club; and Tri-City Golf Club.

Mr. Meyer was preceded in death by a sister, Marie, Mrs. Harvey Dahms. He is survived by his wife and three children; four sister, Viola (Mrs. Ed Wirsching) of Fremont, California, Mrs. Amy Kluss of Castalia, Mrs. Lucy Kluss of Marquette, and Golda (Mrs. Wm. Drallmeier) of Battle Creek, Michigan; one brother, Carlaus of Castalia.
