Mrs. HEINRICH (Dorothea Kluesz) MEYER

Dorothea Kluesz Meyer was born January 16th, 1824 in Lankann, Mecklenburg, Schwerin, Germany.

In the year 1843 she immigrated with some relatives and friends, and in the same year she was married to Heinrich Meyer, Guttenberg, Iowa.

About 25 years later she moved with her husband to a farm between Guttenberg and Elkport. About the year 1874 they moved to Postville. From this year to 1885 they changed their living places several times, and from 1885 to 1917 she lived in Hardin. In 1917 she moved with her son, August, to Monona. At the age of 98 years and a little more than two months on April 11th the Lord of life and death called his servant.

In 1885 she lost her husband. 33 years later she mourned the loss of her only daughter, Mrs. Karl Thies. In October of the same year she wept at the grave of her grandson Walter Meyer, who died of flu in Camp Dodge.

By baptism and confirmation she had become a member of the Lutheran Church, and was a member in good standing of the Lutheran congregation at Guttenberg, Postville, Luana, Monona. In the last years of her life she received much of her contentment and hope by faith she has entered the reward of her Savior.

Mourners are her only son, August H. Meyer of Monona, 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Lutheran St. Paul's church on Good Friday, April 14th, P.M. She was interred in the Lutheran Cemetery at Postville.

We tender gratitude to Rev. A. Daugs, St. Paul's choir, for services rendered and to all who have shown their sympathy and kindness in our distress. August Meyer and Family.

[Submitter's note: Dorothy was a twin. According to Dorothy's death certificate, all papers were lost when her parents emigrated to this country from Germany.]
