ALDEN "Jim" EDWARD BUSACKER NUEHRING

Funeral services for "Jim" Nuehring were held Saturday, February 2, 2002, at 11:00 A.M. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Reverend James Allison officiated. Ramona Everman was the organist and Ronald Meyer was the soloist.

The Casket Bearers were: Lee Thoma, Eugene Nuehring, David Nuehring, Michael DeMarr, Leon Casten, Gary Landsgard, Karl Casten, and honorary Casket Bearers were: Jim and Marie Farmer, Jack Messler, Mervin Larson, Cliff J. and Ida Olson, Gerald and Verda Palas, Doug and Virginia Behrens. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Alden "Jim" Edward Busacker Nuehring, the son of Edward and Hulda Busacker Nuehring, was born May 16, 1916, in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, near Postville, Iowa. He passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2002, in the LaCrescent Healthcare Center at LaCrescent, Minnesota at the age of 85 years, eight months, and 13 days.

He was baptized April 6, 1918 by the Reverend E. Schmidt in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville and confirmed there on August 11, 1929, by the Reverend E. T. Finck. Jim attended the Grand Meadow Township School No. 4.

On June 5, 1960 Jim was married to Dorothy Martens in St. Johns Lutheran Church at Victor, Iowa. The couple farmed in Grand Meadow Township until moving to their present home on Lull Street in Postville in 1988. He enjoyed farming and also did a great deal of reading. Jim and Dorothy took a number of trips, which they enjoyed very much. He was a special uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Jim became a resident of the LaCrescent Healthcare Center on December 12, 2001.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Elliott Nuehring, a sister, Eileen DeMarr, a sister-in-law, Lora (Elery) Nuehring, and a brother-in-law, Leonard Thoma.

Surviving is his wife, Dorothy, two brothers, Elery Nuehring of Madison, WI, and Eldred Nuehring and his wife, Darlene, of Postville, a sister, Ellen Thoma, also of Postville, a brother-in-law, Robert DeMarr of Lake Geneva, WI, and a sister-in-law, Dorothea Nuehring of Postville.

Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Eugene Nuehring, Ron Nuehring and wife, Elane; David Nuehring and wife, Nancy; Paul Nuehring; Shirley (Lowell) Lange; Joyce Nuehring; Lee Thoma and wife, Mary; Russ Thoma and wife, Cathy; Michael DeMarr and wife, Nancy; and Linda and husband, Chris Johnstins and a host of great nieces and nephews.

Jim was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. He served several years on the Postville Cemetery Board. He was also a member of a neighborhood card club and a CB (Citizens Band) Club.

[Submitter's note: In an article about Alden and Dorothy Nuehring taken from the Allamakee County History it says: Alden has gone by the name of Jim ever since he was a little boy, and still goes by that. So people don't even know his real name.]
