Death of Edward Fitzgerald

Edward Fitzgerald, a well known and respected citizen of this community, passed away Thursday morning, June 17, at 7 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. J. Crowe, after an illness of about three weeks.

Edward Fitzgerald was born in Constableville, NY, November 9, 1844, coming to Iowa in January 1866, where he located on a farm in Wexford, where he resided until about ten years ago, when he came to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Crowe. He was united in marriage October 12, 1875, to Mary Osborne at Paint Rock. To them were born six children, four of whom survive: Timothy, of Olivia, Minn.; Edward and Mrs. Frank Marley, Wexford, and Mrs J. J. Crowe, Paint Rock, two children, Mary and John, dying in infancy. His wife preceded him in death. He is also survived by one brother, John Fitzgerald of Lansing, and one sister, Mrs. W. Heaton of Prairie du Chien, and eleven grandchildren.

Deceased was of a whole souled, generous nature and his acts of charity were many. Born and reared in the Catholic faith, he was a faithful and dutiful member to the last and died fortified by its last rites. He was a kind and loving husband and father and a good neighbor.

The funeral was held Saturday morning at Paint Rock, Father Nolan celebrating a Requiem High Mass at 9 o'clock, and Father Lonergan, of Masonville, preached an eloquent and consoling sermon. Interment was made in the family lot at Wexford beside his wife and children. The casket bearers were N. J. Brazell, Ed Foley, Thos. Corcoran, U.V. Melaven, Bernard Houlihan, and Thos. Crowe.
