RITES HELD FOR J. F. SAWVELLE

John F. Sawvelle, the son of John Sawvelle and his wife Mary Muchow Sawvelle, was born September 5,1897 at Waukon, Iowa. He passed away suddenly on August 12,1959 at the age of 61 years, 11 months and seven days.

He was baptized in St. Paul`s Lutheran Church of Postville, Iowa on October 2,1898, and was confirmed in St. Paul`s on December 1954?. He was active in the life of the Church, as well as in many other areas of community life.

He was married to Edith Kohrs of Postville on April 8,1920 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He graduated from Postville high school, operated the Palm Confectionery Store with his wife for 32 years and worked in the Abernethy Clothing Store for the past seven years. He was member of the Masonic Lodge and Odd Fellows Lodge in the community for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Mrs. William Provosnik of West Union.

He is survived by his wife; one sister, Sevena, Mrs. Herman Schutta of Postville; a number of nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

Services were conducted at St. Paul`s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Postville on August 15, at 2:00, with the pastor, the Rev. Charles E. Witt, officiating.

Burial was in the Postville cemetery.
