YOUNG WAUKON FARMER VICTIM OF ICY HIGHWAY

Three men from northeastern Iowa Monday were the victims of slippery highways in the state over the week-end. They are:

ARTHUR SCHAVE, 25, farmer living four miles southeast of Waukon.

Howard Retz, 35, of Lamont.

Claude O'Brien, 33, of Lamont.

Schave died early Sunday morning when he was being taken to a Waukon hospital. The only son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schave, well known Allamakee county farmers, the victim volunteered to take William Bublitz to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bublitz north of Waukon, late Saturday night. About 10 miles north of Waukon, the car skidded on the icy pavement and landed in a ditch. Both occupants of the car were pinned beneath the wreckage for sometime.

John Rouster, Allamakee county supervisor, was the first to notice the accident. He stopped but was unable to liberate the two men from the wreckage. However, he summoned aid and in a short time the two victims of the crash were rushed to a Waukon hospital. Schave died before the hospital was reached.

Bublitz is suffering from only minor injuries.

Funeral services for Schave will be held Tuesday morning at the Zion Reformed church in Waukon.

Besides his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Marie at home, Mrs. Grace Lundt, living near Waukon, and Mrs. Rose Dahms, living near Castalia.

The Schave family formerly lived near Postville on a farm.
