Funeral Services Are Held For Milton Schlitter

Funeral services were held for Milton William Adolph Schlitter, 75, Aug. 2, 1980 at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with the Rev. Kenneth P. Alpers and John H Sorenson officiating. Interment was in St. John Lutheran Cemetery at Sumner. Pallbearers included six nephews.

Mr. Schlitter was a son of Albert and Elizabeth (Schmitt) Schlitter, born July 30, 1905 in Linton Township, Allamakee County. He was baptized in the Evangelical faith and confirmed at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, Feb. 4, 1940. He received his education in rural schools of Allamakee County.

June 26, 1929 he was married to Evelyn Mielke at Waukon. The couple farmed in Allamakee County for 30 years. Following retirement, they lived on different acreages in the Fredericksburg and Sumner areas. They had resided in Sumner since 1977.

A stroke led to his hospitalization at Waterloo where he died Thursday, July 31.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leslie; sister, Hazel (Mrs. Grover Timmerman); and twin grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Mrs. George (Shirley) Strut of Sumner; sons, Willard of Mt. Auburn, Iowa and Gary of Denver, Iowa; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Carlton of Monona and Willis of Waukon; and sister, Mrs. Gerwin (Mabel) Martins of Postville.
