Mabel Sophia Fredericka (Schultz) Schultz

Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel Schultz were held Saturday, November 22, 1997 at 1:30 p.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Reverend T. M. Marks officiated. Joann Martins was the organist. The Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.

Mabel Sophia Fredericka Rosina Geneva Schultz, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Jahnke) Schultz, was born December 15, 1899, on a farm near "Moneek" in Winneshiek County, northeast of Castalia, IA.

She passed away Wednesday, November 19, 1997 in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, IA. She had reached the age of 97 years, 11 months and four days. She was baptized on March 18, 1900 and confirmed on April 5, 1914 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Mabel attended the rural school near her home.

On March 27, 1919 she was married to Emil Schultz, Sr. at the home of her parents. To this union ten children were born. The couple lived in Castalia area and farmed in the Luana, Rudd, and Postville areas. They operated Emil's place in Postville for 18 years. Mabel was a good friend of Marian and Paul Schutte and often took care of their children and house when the Schuttees were away. Mabel became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in May of 1991.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emil (Sr.); three daughters who died in infancy; including twins, two sons, Eldon Schultz and Wesley Schultz; a grandson, Kevin Schultz; one brother, Lloyd Schultz and wife, Aurelia; three sisters, Ora and husband, Lloyd Sampson, Amanda Hupfer and husbands, Verni Schultz and Vern Hupfer and Eileen and husband Robert McGilligan; two daughters-in-law, Vivian Schultz (Emil Jr.) and Elma Schultz (Carlas); and brothers-in-law, (Alta's husbands) William Jenson and Al Borchardt.

Surviving are a daughter, Eudora and husband, Jerry Moore of Midland, TX; four sons, Emil Schultz, Jr. and wife, Joyce of Farmersburg, IA, Carlas Schultz and wife, Elsie of Medinah, IL; Willis Schultz and wife, Lauretta of Marion, IA and Floyd Schultz and wife, Phyliss of Auburndale, FL; 19 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; a sister, Alta Borchardt of Menasha, WI; nieces and nephews; grand nieces and nephews; great-grand nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

Mabel was a life member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and the Women of the ELCA, a charter member of the V. F. W. Auxiliary and a member of the Bloomfield Historical Society. She served as a volunteer at the Allamakee County Home for many years.

The casketbearers were: Craig, Chris, Wayne and Brad Schultz, Brekka Fosdal and Jeff Neis.
