Services Held For Mrs. Schultz

Mrs. Louise Lenth Schultz, a daughter of Carl and Dorathea Schmalfeldt Lenth, was born in Farmersburg Township, Clayton County, on June 30, 1872, and passed away October 1, 1959.

She was baptized as Louise Charlotte Sophia on November 29, 1872, in Zion Church, Clayton Center, Iowa, and confirmed there on April 18, 1886. She attended school in the Mecklenburg district near Farmersburg, Iowa.

On November 22, 1889, she was united in marriage with Frederick Henry Schultz. Together they devoted their active years to farming in the vicinity of Postville. Fifty years after their marriage they shared the observance of their golden wedding anniversary.

She became a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at the time of her marriage and was active in the organizations of the women of the church as long as she was able and served them as an officer in several capacities.

Her husband preceded her in death on December 9, 1940. She was the mother of four children: Orville of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Lucia (Mrs. Frederick Baltz) of Postville; Amanda of Castalia; Richard, now in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Eugene Baltz of Onawa, Iowa; Marian Handke of Oelwein and Merle Meyer of Cannon Air Force Base, Clovis, New Mexico. She had seven great grandchildren. A sister, Amanda Fuhrmann of St. Olaf and a brother, Carl Lenth of Elkader also survive.

After a long and active life she had survived so many of her contemporaries she felt acutely the wear of time but without loss of interest and action in the ever-changing present.

As a first generation daughter of immigrants from Mecklenburg of North Germany, she was one of the few living links with the speech of the Low Countries and some will recall her great pleasure in conversing with a few acquaintances in her ancestral tongue.

Rites were held Monday afternoon, 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the pastor, the Rev. C. W. Witt in charge. Burial was in Postville cemetery.
