August "Gus" Schultz

August Harry Schultz, son of Harry and Hazel (Kiesau) Schultz was born October 28, 1941 in Postville, Iowa. He died Thursday, June 25, 1992 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital at Decorah, Iowa at the age of 50 years, 7 months and 27 days.

He was baptized December 14, 1941 by the Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig and confirmed April 3, 1955 by the Rev. Charles E. Witt, both in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. For the first six years of his life, he lived on a farm northwest of Frankville. The family then moved to the farm north of Postville. He graduated from Postville High School in 1959 and attended Iowa State University at Ames where he was enrolled in a short course in agriculture. After finishing school he moved to his present farm west of Postville. Prior to his illness, Gus was employed in the Bakery Department at Quandahl's Food Ranch in Waukon.

On May 4, 1968 he was married to DiAnn Marie Tolander in the East Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church. They are the parents of two sons, Christopher and Timothy.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel and a sister who died in infancy.

Surviving are his wife, DiAnn, two sons, Christopher who is attending Bethany Lutheran College at Mankato, Minn. and Timothy, at home; his father, Harry L. Schultz of Postville and a sister, Mary and her husband, Robert Bradley of Palatine, Ill., a sister-in-law, Eleanor and her husband, Robert Larson of Waterville and several nephews and nieces.

Gus was a member of Trinity Lutheran Synod Church in Calmar was presently serving as a trustee. He had been a former member of St. Paul Lutheran in Postville and East Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church of rural Waterville.

Casket bearers were Rick Larson, Russ Larson, Verdine Houg, William Ohloff, Darrell Busness, Howard Wangsness, Bernald Martins and Ralph Auer.
